Filmmaking. It's more
fun with your friends.
Welcome to my After School Film Class! Since 2011, this all-ages program has helped Portland youth learn scriptwriting,
directing, acting, cinematography, sound recording and editing--all through the process of making a live-action movie.
Classes are small, team-based and specially designed to make it easy for every student to learn to become a filmmaker, regardless of experience. And with classes conveniently offered right at home, students see how easy it can be to turn their
living room, kitchen, backyard or garage into a real-life movie set.
This popular ten-week class brings Hollywood to your house. We begin by breaking down the narrative structure that creates the backbone of your favorite movies--then we write our own. We script heroes, villains, a dramatic plot packed with action, jokes, twists and a dramatic climax. We then spend the next two months telling the story through a series of creatively framed shots before editing the footage (with lots of music) into a short film starring YOU both in front of and behind the camera.
Schedule: two hours per class; one class per week; begins early April (exact date TBA based on enrolled students)
Enrollment: Four students (max); offered fall, spring, winter, summer
